Program Overview

Motorsport Engineering

This motorsport engineering summer term in the Motor Valley runs for two weeks and is designed for undergraduate and master students. A two-week summer term that fills the motorsport gap most engineering degrees leave open. In the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley, university engineering students go deep into both sides of the sport: Race Car Design & Manufacturing, designing, building and validating a real aerodynamic component and Race Strategy & Performance, learning the race engineer’s craft from active Formula 1 race engineers and running a full race weekend. Deliberately advanced, hands-on, and taught entirely in English. Ideal for Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace and Motorsport Engineering students.

The program is based in the Motor Valley (Emilia-Romagna), at a leading engineering and innovation campus near Parma. The companies of this cluster design Formula 1 cars, build chassis for IndyCar, Formula 2 and Formula 3, and produce Le Mans hypercars including the Cadillac and BMW LMDh, the Le Mans-winning Ferrari 499P and McLaren's 2027 car. The surrounding Motor Valley is the densest motorsport-engineering cluster on earth, around 188 companies and over €12bn, home to Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Maserati and Ducati.

Program Highlights

Aerodynamics & CFD, vehicle dynamics and composite engineering

Telemetry, data and race strategy with active Formula 1 race engineers

Build a real aerodynamic component and run a full race weekend

Why This Matters

  • Around 188 companies and over €12bn, home to Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Dallara, Maserati and Ducati.
  • Based at the Dallara Academy and Innovation Farm near Parma.
  • Dallara designs the Haas Formula 1 cars and is the sole chassis builder for IndyCar, Formula 2 and Formula 3.
  • Taught by active Formula 1 race engineers.
  • Everything is proven the way a constructor develops a car: on a professional driving simulator.

Typical Weekly Schedule

Race Car Design & Manufacturing

Advanced aerodynamics and CFD, vehicle dynamics, composite engineering and real manufacturing: lamination, CNC and 3D printing.

Race Strategy & Performance

Trackside work on telemetry and data, tyres, race strategy and pit-wall communications, taught by active Formula 1 race engineers.

Project: Build a Component & Run a Race Weekend

The term is built as one continuous arc: design and build a race-car component, then engineer its performance on track, proven on a professional driving simulator.

Special Excursions

Dallara HQ visit, Autodromo di Varano and a Ferrari factory visit including Corse Clienti and Scuderia Ferrari.

Final Project

Students validate a real aerodynamic component and run a full race weekend, defending their engineering choices against real data.
